This season hasn’t started the way APOEL would have liked, especially in a special year like this one, marking the 100th anniversary of the club’s founding. After four matches, the “blue-and-yellows” have two losses, one draw, and one win, and are looking for consistency and improvement on the field.
The league break due to national team commitments, however, may prove to be an important opportunity for Nikos Papadopoulos’s team. APOEL will return to training next Monday (September 28), effectively kicking off their preparations for the upcoming matches following the end of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan break.
At the same time, to keep the team sharp, a friendly match against Krasava ENY has been scheduled so that the players can maintain their competitive rhythm.
The greatest benefit, however, may come from the injury report. The break provides valuable time for the injured players—Marquinhos, Carillo, Mancini, and Pieros—to continue their rehabilitation and get closer to returning to action.
The first two are expected to return within the next month, while Pieros is on the road to recovery and is expected to be available in November. Their return will provide additional options and depth for Nikos Papadopoulos at a time when APOEL needs solutions.
At the same time, the break may also prove beneficial for the team’s most recent signings. Bakasetas, Barak, and Zelenika will have the opportunity to train more with the rest of the team, internalize the coach’s game plan, and adapt to the team’s demands.
