Bayern Munich returned to winning ways, struggling but ultimately defeating newly promoted Elversberg 2-1 on the road, in the third matchday of this season’s Bundesliga.
The Bavarians fielded a heavily rotated lineup, yet they dominated from the start and took the lead before the half-hour mark. Following an attack down the left flank, with Saibari delivering his third assist of the season and Karl—who had been waiting to score the 0-1 from close range— in the 25th minute.
Nevertheless, the newly promoted home team remained undeterred. They saw a goal by Campbell disallowed in the 43rd minute via VAR, but managed to equalize just past the one-hour mark. And what a goal it was—scored by former Bayern player Kratenmacher, who left the helpless Urbig with no chance to react, making it 1-1 in the 61st minute.
A minute earlier, Kane had made it 0-2, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Of course, the English striker was unlikely to remain go “goal-less” in a third consecutive league match, and that was confirmed in the 72nd minute, when, with a masterful shot, he made it 1-2 in favor of the visitors…
Elversberg came close to equalizing again, Bayern hit the crossbar with a shot by Kimmich, with the final result handing the former its… first loss and propelling the latter to the top of the standings.
