The Cyprus Olympic Committee announces that Cypriot shooter Konstantina Nikolaou, a member of the Cyprus Olympic Committee’s delegation to the 20th Mediterranean Games“Taranto 26,” has been elected to the Athletes’ Commission of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG – ICMG). Konstantina Nikolaou’s candidacy was submitted following a recommendation by the Cyprus Olympic Committee, and her term of office covers the period 2026–2030.
The election took place during the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, with the participation of male and female athletes from the National Olympic Committees of the ICMG member countries.
According to the official results of the vote count, Konstantina Nikolaou, a candidate from Cyprus in the sport of shooting, received 375 votes, placing second among the female candidates and securing her election to the Athletes’ Commission.
Her election is a particularly significant honor for her, for Cypriot shooting, and for Cypriot sports in general, as it enables her to represent the voice of athletes on the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games and to actively contribute to the work and decisions concerning the future of Mediterranean sports.
Konstantina Nikolaou’s election is the latest in a series of significant successes for Cyprus within the governing bodies of international sports. It should be noted that Dinos Lefkaritis Jr., Treasurer of the Athletes’ Commission of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, serves as a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the European Olympic Committees (2025–2029)
These developments constitute a particularly significant recognition of the presence and contribution of the Cyprus Olympic Committee to the Olympic and Mediterranean sports movements and further strengthen the participation of Cypriotin the institutional bodies of the IMA.
