It is with deep sorrow that the Cyprus Olympic Committee bids farewell to Dimis Mavropoulos, who passed away so unjustly last Saturday. A man of the Olympic spirit, of sports, and of culture—but above all, a worthy member of society, known for his tremendous philanthropic work.
Dimitris was known as a lover of perfection. He wouldn’t take on anything unless he knew he could make it perfect. And this is reflected in every phase of his life. A father, a successful businessman, a top-tier race car driver, and later the founder of an exemplary classic car museum—perhaps the best in the wider Mediterranean region.
He was also known as a lover of life. Whatever he did, he did it with love for his fellow human beings. He created floats for carnivals and organized all kinds of events. An ambassador of philanthropy. All the rallies organized by his club (LIKOK) were for charitable purposes. And not just his club’s rallies.
The Cyprus Olympic Committee had the honor of meeting him at the annual charity classic car races in Athienou, held in memory of Maria Theodorou.
As the Cyprus Olympic Committee, they had placed the annual event under their auspices, and there they had the pleasure and honor of meeting Dimi Mavropoulos, who was one of the event’s sponsors.
At the 2023 event, even though the sponsorship funds had already been secured, he grabbed the microphone and, in a way only he knew how, managed to raise another €3,000 in just five minutes!
That was Dimis Mavropoulos. A wonderful and genuine person.
Safe travels, my friend Dimis… The Athenou Municipality’s charity event, in memory of Maria Theodorou, won’t be the same without you…
