Developments at Nottingham Forest are unfolding rapidly, as Vitor Pereira is no longer the team’s head coach, in a case that is causing a stir due to the manner in which the partnership between the two sides came to an end.
According to a report by The Athletic, the Portuguese coach was informed of his dismissal via email at 11:58 p.m. on June 30, just two minutes before the deadline for activating a special clause in his contract. This provision allowed Nottingham to terminate its contract with the 58-year-old coach without being bound for another year.
The same report states that the former Olympiacos coach had no indication whatsoever that his departure was imminent. On the contrary, until just a few hours before he was informed, he was actively involved in planning for the new season, having, among other things, his approval for Nottingham’s participation in a friendly tournament in Italy against Udinese and Barcelona.
The club’s management is reported to have already decided on Pereira’s successor, with Oliver Glasner poised to take over as head coach. The selection of the Austrian coach is seen as part of Forest’s effort to raise its level ahead of the new season.
