OFI’s historic qualification for the Europa League group stage brought the team’s fans out onto the streets, even in the middle of the night.
Despite the late hour, dozens of Cretan fans gathered at Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport, waiting for the team’s return from Sofia.
Shortly after 3 a.m., the atmosphere in the arrivals hall turned into… a soccer stadium. Smoke bombs, chants, and celebrations created a spectacular scene, with OFI fans cheering on the players and coaching staff for their great success.
The victory over CSKA Sofia and the advancement to the next round of the competition mark one of the most significant moments in the club’s European history, and the fans were eager to thank the stars in person.
The players, Christos Kontis, and the rest of the coaching staff were greeted with a hero’s welcome upon their arrival, in a scene that perfectly captured the excitement sparked by OFI’s European campaign.
Crete stayed up all night for its team, and the welcome at the airport was the perfect finale to an unforgettable night in Sofia.
