Cristiano Ronaldo sat on the bench, staring in disbelief, smiling awkwardly, unable to believe that for 10 seconds, Al Nassr had failed to clinch the Saudi Arabian Championship just a few days ago.
Bento’s blunder, losing control of the ball from… a throw-in to make it 1-1 in the match against Al Hilal, kept Karim Benzema’s team in the running for the title, and CR7 is called upon tonight to lead his team by the hand.
Specific results will determine the outcome of this year’s Saudi Arabian League, which concludes tonight, with the finale turning into a thriller and capturing the public’s interest more than ever before.
Al Nassr, led by the Portuguese superstar, remains at the top with 83 points, two points ahead of Al Hilal. They host Damac, who are two points above the relegation zone and certainly need a result to avoid worrying about what happens in the bottom three spots.
On the other hand, Simone Inzaghi’s team is visiting Al-Fayha, which is completely unmotivated, sitting exactly in 10th place in the standings.
With a win, Al-Nassr certainly has nothing else to think about besides the celebration for winning the title, with Cristiano adding his first league title since moving to Saudi Arabia.
If his team draws and Al Hilal wins, then the latter claims the title, with the head-to-head record serving as the deciding factor!
And of course, if Al-Nassr loses and Al-Hilal defeats Al-Fayha, then the title will obviously slip away from the leaders, who will drop in the standings.
