River Plate announced that it will have the honor of hosting Lionel Messi one last time as he wears the Argentine national team jersey.
The GOAT retired from the “Albiceleste” shortly after the final of this year’s World Cup and the death of his father, having been drained of both energy and motivation.
Although Messi had already announced his retirement from his country’s national team, was included in the roster announced late Tuesday night for the matches against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin; however, it appears he will only play in one of those matches.
River Plate announced that this will be against Benin on October 6 at the “Monumental,” and in all likelihood, there, Argentina’s modern-day soccer god will simply step onto the field to be honored, celebrated, and to bid farewell to his fans—not to play.
