Fotis Ioannidis spoke about the challenges of last year, the new challenge he faces with Sporting Lisbon, as well as personal choices that have influenced his daily life. The international forward spoke on the new show, “ALL IN,” revealing, among other things, the reasons why he decided to limit his use of social media.
Among other things, the 26-year-old forward reflected on his missed opportunity against Germany, explaining that what bothered him most wasn’t simply the fact that he failed to score, but his inability to believe that he hadn’t put the ball in the net.
“It wasn’t that I missed it, but that it was inconceivable to me that this chance was missed,” he said, describing his reaction after that particular play.
He made a special mention, however, of Dimitris Kourbelis’s goal, revealing just how happy he was for his teammate.
“Kourbelis’s goal felt as if I had scored it myself,” he said, explaining that both his own goal and the standing ovation at Toumba were significant moments for him, as he felt he had given it his all. At the same time, Ioannidis spoke humorously about his fierce duel with German defender Malik Tiaw, revealing that by the end of the match, both of them were exhausted.
“At one point, in the 80th minute, we were talking and he told me, ‘That’s enough,’ and I told him, ‘That’s enough.’ I told him I couldn’t take it anymore, I was going to collapse,” he said, describing the conversation they had on the field.
When asked to compare Tiao with Virgil van Dijk—whom he has also faced—the Greek forward highlighted the Dutch center back’s distinctive presence.
“I think Van Dijk also has that aura about him. Virgil is Virgil,” he remarked characteristically.
