On Sunday night (September 13), the United States lived up to its status as the favorite and defeated France by an impressive 97-79 in the grand final of the Women’s Basketball World Cup held at Berlin’s “Uber Arena,” remaining at the top of the world for yet another tournament!
After a competitive and evenly matched first half, Kara Lawson’s players stepped on the gas in the second half and, with a halftime score of 54–34, they claimed their fifth consecutive World Cup gold medal and twelfth overall in their history!
The standout of the game was Breanna Stewart, as the 32-year-old forward finished the final with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Young (18 pts.) and Cooper (15 pts.) provided valuable support.
For the “Tricolors,” who achieved their best-ever run in the tournament’s history on German soil, finishing in second place, Malonga and Williams stood out with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
