Elversberg wrote the first page of its Bundesliga history in the most impressive way possible, as in its debut in the top flight, it managed to defeat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2.
The newly promoted team took the field without a trace of fear and, within just nine minutes, had taken a two-goal lead. Lukas Petkov opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and one minute later, Cole Campbell made it 2-0, putting the visitors in a tough spot very early on.
In fact, at the start of the second half, the home team made their triumph even more decisive. David Mokva-Dusu scored in the 46th minute, bringing the score to 3-0 and turning Elversberg’s season opener into a night that will go down in the club’s history.
Leverkusen did not give up and managed to pull one back through Patrick Schick in the 77th minute and Christian Kofane in stoppage time. Nevertheless, Elversberg celebrated a huge victory in its Bundesliga debut, getting off to the best possible start in its new adventure among the elite.
In other matches, Cologne staged a major comeback against Hoffenheim, winning 3-2 despite trailing early on. The home team celebrated the victory thanks to two goals by Dallinga in the second half. As a reminder, the losing teams will face Olympiacos and OFI in the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Leipzig got off to a strong start in this year’s Bundesliga, defeating Gladbach 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena. The home team took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal by Bakou, while Nusa doubled his team’s lead in the 49th minute. Reich made it 3-0 in the 66th minute, with Gladbach pulling one back in stoppage time through Bolin for the final score of 3-1.
Finally, in a game that had it all, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt played to a 3-3 draw in the Bundesliga opener, providing a thrilling spectacle right up to the final second.
Union opened the scoring just three minutes in with a goal by Late Lath, but Eintracht responded immediately. Emnoutalib found the back of the net twice within a minute (10’, 11’) and turned the match on its head, with the visitors heading into the locker room up 2-1.
In the second half, Eintracht appeared to be in control, and in the 67th minute, Emnoutalib completed his hat trick, making it 3-1. Union, however, did not give up. In the 79th minute, Kerfeld pulled one back to make it 3-2, reigniting the excitement in the match.
Just when it looked like Eintracht would come away with the win, an incredible finish unfolded. Tim Skarke scored in the 90+3rd minute to make it 3-3 and complete a stunning comeback for Union.
