Today can be described as a historic day for Liverpool and the club’s future!
The owners of the “Reds” announced on Friday evening (August 14) that they had agreed to sell approximately one-third of the team’s shares to a consortium of investors that includes, among others, Amazon’s billionaire founder, Jeff Bezos.
In a statement issued by Fenway Sports Group, the company announced that a definitive agreement had been reached to sell a minority stake in Liverpool to “1892 Holdings,” a consortium consisting—in addition to Bezos—of Facebook co-founder, Eduardo Saverin, as well as the British-Indian millionaire entrepreneur Amit Bhatia.
In fact, the latter is expected to become vice president of the Merseyside-based club and will join an expanded board of directors pending approval from regulatory authorities.
According to British media reports, this historic deal is expected to reach 5 to 6 billion pounds, with Liverpool now having three of the world’s wealthiest people as “teammates.”
