Karmiotissa describes the statement by the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee as unacceptable and reprehensible, expressing its strong protest against the public reference to the match against Ermis Aradippou, which is scheduled to take place in about three weeks, without any specific details being disclosed.
The Polemidia team is demanding immediate and substantiated explanations regarding the criteria for publicizing the case, emphasizing that preventive surveillance does not constitute a finding of a violation nor does it justify the public stigmatization of groups and individuals.
At the same time, Karmiotissa states that she has already sent an official letter and warns of legal action and complaints if clear answers are not provided, while also asking the members of the Committee to take responsibility for the publication of the announcement.
The full statement reads as follows:
“Karmiotissa FC considers the announcement by the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee to be unacceptable and reprehensible, which publicly accuses our club of possible match-fixing in a game to be played in three weeks, without disclosing specific evidence to substantiate our team’s involvement.
The match has not yet taken place, but the accusations have already been leveled. We were unaware that the Commission’s responsibilities included predicting the future.
On what evidence and criteria was the Karmiotissa–Ermis Aradippou match singled out? What purpose does this public report serve, beyond monitoring by the relevant authorities?
Who takes responsibility for subjecting the club, the administration, the players, and our coaching staff to suspicion?
We support a full investigation into any information regarding match-fixing. However, raising such allegations does not constitute a blank check for public stigmatization.
Ethics bind, first and foremost, those who are called upon to uphold them.
The announcement creates a climate in which every play, mistake, or result risks being interpreted through the lens of preconceived suspicions. If this is considered a means of protecting sports, the Commission must explain exactly whom it is protecting.
We have already sent an official letter requesting clarification regarding the basis of the information and the criteria for its disclosure.
We demand immediate, substantiated responses and a public clarification that preventive monitoring does not constitute a finding of a violation nor an attribution of blame to the teams and their members.
If specific details and clear explanations are not provided, Karmiotissa FC reserves all its legal rights and will take every legal action, including legal action and formal complaints before the competent authorities and bodies, to defend the name, reputation, and interests of the club and its members.
We call on the Commission to present specific evidence justifying the public exposure of our team. Otherwise, we call on its members to take responsibility for the stigma they have caused and to submit their resignations.
Institutional responsibility is not limited to issuing statements.
The name of Karmiotissa is not to be used for public relations stunts. We expect facts and answers, not predictions.”
