The former minister and president of the Famagusta District Local Government Organization, Yiannis Karousos, spoke out publicly regarding the penalty imposed on Anorthosis by the CFA Judicial Committee, expressing his views on how the team should be treated.
In detail: “As an Anorthosis supporter, I will not remain silent when I see my team being treated in a way that raises serious questions about equal treatment.
Anorthosis isn’t asking for immunity. It isn’t asking for leniency. It isn’t asking to be given anything for free. It’s asking for the obvious: the same rules for everyone.
Because justice by double standards is not justice. And institutions that fail to convince others of the consistency of their decisions lose their credibility. In Cypriot soccer, we’re tired of hearing about regulations that are enforced “strictly,” when at the same time the public sees different situations and wonders if they’re being treated with the same strictness.
Those in charge must provide a clear answer: Is there one standard for everyone, or a different standard depending on the team? This doesn’t just concern Anorthosis. It concerns the credibility of Cypriot soccer as a whole. And one more thing.
Anorthosis is not just any club. It is the team of occupied Famagusta. It embodies history, displacement, memory, and dignity.
This does not entitle it to preferential treatment—but it certainly does not allow anyone to assume they can wrong it without a response.
If there are rules, they must apply to everyone. If there are penalties, they must be imposed with equal measure. Selective strictness is not the rule of law.
As a member of Anorthosis, I demand transparency, consistency, and equal treatment. Anorthosis is not asking for mercy. It is asking for justice. And we will be here to demand it.”
