Viking made its Champions League debut, but Stuttgart didn’t go easy on them; thanks to a hat trick by the formidable Emredin Demirović in just twelve minutes, they prevailed 3-1 at home over the Norwegian champions.
The scoring began in the 20th minute, with the Bosnian opening the scoring with a close-range finish off a cross from Stiller. Within two minutes, the Norwegians equalized with their first goal of the tournament, as Tripic perfectly finished his team’s counterattack.

Demirović, however, had only just gotten started, and with two more goals of his own—both set up by Udav—in the 26th minute with a powerful shot and in the 32nd minute with an excellent finish inside the box, he completed his hat trick and put his team up 3–1.
In the second half, the Germans successfully managed to hold onto their lead, with the score remaining unchanged until the final whistle and Stuttgart getting off to a strong start in the tournament, while making it clear to… Cinderella, Viking, that the highest level of competition does not forgive defensive lapses like those shown by the team led by Bjarne Lunde Arashheim and Morten Jensen.
