The lineup of teams set to compete in the Davis Cup World Group I playoffs in February 2027 has been finalized, with a total of 26 countries vying for the 13 spots in the division.
The group of 26 consists of two distinct “paths.” On one hand are the 13 countries that were defeated in the World Group I matches in September 2026 and will compete to remain in the division. On the other are the 13 winners of World Group II, who have earned the opportunity to move up a level and compete for a spot in World Group I.
Greece is among the teams in the top division, which suffered a 3-2 defeat to Slovakia in Košice and will now have to go through the February playoffs to remain in World Group I. Along with Greece, the following teams from World Group I have been relegated to the playoffs: Poland, Turkey, Colombia, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Finland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, New Zealand, China, Sweden, and Paraguay.
From World Group II, Portugal, South Africa, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, the Dominican Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Morocco, Mexico, Uruguay, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Bolivia have secured their spots in the playoffs.
The 26 teams will be divided into 13 matchups, with the winners advancing to World Group I and the losers continuing in World Group II. As a reminder, in the corresponding 2026 playoffs in Athens, Greece defeated Mexico 3-1. In February 2027, Greece will vie for its fifth consecutive appearance in Group I, but it remains to be seen who its new opponent will be, in the draw to be held during the last week of September.
As a reminder, the draw system includes seeded and unseeded countries, and Greece is expected to be in the first category, which means it will avoid facing the strongest of the 26 countries.
