Jürgen Klopp made a change to Germany's original schedule ahead of the match against Greece, which will take place on Sunday, September 27, at 9:45 p.m. in Augsburg.
The original plan called for the team to depart on Saturday and spend the night in the host city, but ultimately, the German team will stay one additional night at its training center in Herzogenaurach.
As announced by the German Football Association, the team will travel to Augsburg on the day of the match, with the aim of placing greater emphasis on the players’ recovery and rest. Germany returned from Amsterdam on Friday after the match against the Netherlands, while Jonathan Burkhardt and Florian Wirtz were added to the squad to fill in for the injured Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz.
The change in the travel schedule also affected the pre-match activities. The final training session will take place as scheduled at 11:00 a.m., but the press conference has been moved from 6:00 p.m. at the Augsburg stadium to 2:00 p.m. in Herzogenaurach. Center back Jonathan Ta will be joining Klopp at the press conference.
After the match against Greece, the German squad will return immediately to Herzogenaurach, as originally scheduled. The revised plan has been approved by UEFA, with Klopp aiming to have his players as well-rested as possible for his first home game as head coach of the national team.
