Greece defeated Serbia 2-1 in a come-from-behind victory and took the lead in the group. Next up is the second matchday, with our national team traveling to Augsburg. On Sunday evening (9:45 p.m.) (September 27), Greece will face the mighty German team, in what may be the most difficult and demanding match of the tournament.
At the press conference ahead of this important match, Jürgen Klopp placed particular emphasis on the new generation of Greek soccer, mentioning, among others, Konstantelia and Karetsa, ahead of Germany’s match against Greece. The German national team coach initially spoke about the talent on the Greek team, describing it as a particularly high-caliber group of players.
Klopp on Karetsas, Konstantelias, and the new generation of Greek players: “They have a lot of good players. This is a great generation—perhaps the golden generation of Greek soccer. “They have a lot of good players. This is a great generation, perhaps the golden generation of Greek soccer. The analysis was interesting. The results weren’t there until the last game. They have a lot of quality, creativity, and work hard as a team. We have great respect for Greece and know that we’ll have to work hard to get a result.”
The German coach also commented on Greece’s style of play, placing particular emphasis on their offensive approach. “Their attack is fluid and well-coordinated,” he noted, considering the offensive aspect to be one of the “blue-and-whites’” greatest strengths.
He also made a special mention of Kostas Tsimikas, about whom Klopp revealed that he would love to work with him again, having fond memories of their time together at Liverpool.
“I’d really love to work with Kostas again. We did some fantastic things together. You saw his cross on the winning goal against Serbia. He’s a very good player and a fun guy,” he emphasized, concluding by saying:
“We have great respect for Greece and know that we’ll have to work hard to get a result.”
