Yiannis Konstantelias’s decision, announced yesterday at noon, not to be available for the Greek national team’s upcoming matches citing personal and family reasons.
The 23-year-old PAOK attacking midfielder announced his decision via a social media post, reactivating his personal account after a long hiatus.
According to the behind-the-scenes report by Live Sport, the decision was not made at the last minute but had been maturing since the previous day. Rather, it was the result of careful thought and deep reflection, with the soccer player in constant communication with those around him and receiving support from his inner circle.
The international star discussed the matter at length with both his family and people he trusts, who played a decisive role in shaping his final decision. His decision pertains exclusively to this specific period and the increased family responsibilities he must manage.
At the same time, he made sure to contact the Hellenic Football Federation before making his decision public. According to the report, there were discussions with officials from the HFF, who responded with understanding to the player’s wishes, recognizing that this was a purely personal choice and not a definitive departure from the national team.
In fact, efforts were made to explore the possibility of changing his mind, but Konstantelias remained firm in his decision to sit out these specific call-ups.
