Atlético Madrid is just a step away from signing Cristian Romero, as according to *Marca*, the “Roji-Blancos” have reached a preliminary agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of the Argentine center back.
The deal between the two clubs is reportedly worth a total of 40 million euros, consisting of a base fee of 35 million euros and an additional 5 million euros in bonuses.
Atlético had set their sights on Romero last summer as well, but at that time, Tottenham’s financial demands had led the Madrid club to withdraw their interest. A year later, however, the “Roji-Blancos” have made a strong comeback and are now very close to finalizing the transfer.
The player’s own wishes also played a significant role in the development of the situation. Romero reportedly prioritized Atlético, despite interest from other major European clubs, as he wanted to work with Diego Simeone.
In fact, Romero’s transfer may also influence the situation involving Julián Álvarez, as the presence of his compatriot on the team could have a positive effect and serve as an additional link for the Atlético forward.
