Antonio Cordon believes that Ayoub El Kaabi will be available again for Olympiacos in the second half of the season following his serious injury in early September.
“His stats with Olympiacos speak for themselves. He’s a player who arrived without fanfare; no one knew him. We were lucky. We’d faced him when we were in China and found out he was a free agent. That prompted us to try to sign him, because we believed he could offer exactly what Olympiacos needed at that moment. We saw the result, didn’t we? He has become an iconic player. The other day, he walked onto the field still using his crutches, and the crowd gave him a standing ovation. He’s a true professional, an incredible soccer player—very talented and special. “We can’t wait for him to return for the second half of the season,” the “Red-and-Whites’” sporting director told Flashscore.
He also mentioned the tradition the Basques have established at Olympiacos. “The door opened somewhat with Ernesto, who won the league title. However, I don’t believe there’s a deliberate search for Spanish coaches or players. It’s a coincidence, but it seems these people adapt well here. The club’s track record proves it: it seems that when someone comes from Spain—or, more specifically, from the Basque Country—they adapt very well. Everyone gives them a wonderful welcome.”
