Sakkari, the top seed, easily advanced to the quarterfinals of the Athens Open!
Greece’s top female tennis player put on a strong performance against Britain’s Harriet Dart, controlling the match from start to finish and asserting her superiority to secure a comfortable 2-0 set victory (6-1, 6-2)!
Sakkari thus continues her run in the WTA tournament being held in Athens and is now waiting to find out who her next opponent will be, who will be the winner of the Mai Hondama–Alicia Parks match.
The match began with Sakkari taking the first game and coming… within a hair’s breadth of a 2-0 lead, missing a double break point. However, what she failed to do in the second game of the first set, she managed to do in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead; she then capitalized on the momentum and dominated, easily reaching 6-1 to take the first step toward victory!
Sakkari also got off to an ideal start in the second set, breaking serve to regain the lead; and although Dart fought back to tie the score at 2-2, Maria found her rhythm again and won four consecutive games to reach 6-2 and secure a comfortable victory.
