Max Verstappen was the fastest driver in the first free practice session at Spa, setting the fastest time of the session. Behind him were the two Ferraris, with Lewis Hamilton 0.145 seconds behind the Dutch Red Bull driver and Charles Leclerc following 0.207 seconds behind.
Isaac Hanzar also put in a strong performance; despite the heavy penalty he received for the Grand Prix, put in a competitive performance and finished the session just behind Leclerc. Oscar Piastri, although he encountered a technical issue with his car in the final minutes, had already managed to set an excellent lap time that placed him fifth in the standings.
The Mercedes cars failed to make an impact in FP1, with Kimi Antonelli finishing in sixth place and George Russell limited to eighth.
The action at the Belgian Grand Prix continues with the second free practice session, scheduled for 6:00 p.m., wrapping up the first day’s program at Spa.
