AEL’s press officer, Nikolas Leventis, made statements to “SPOR FM 95.0.”
He discussed the victory over Omonia on May 29 and the fact that the team is in first place.
He also spoke about how difficult it was to cope with the heavy 6-0 loss to APOEL, highlighted the standout players on the roster, and analyzed the game statistics.
Statements
On first place: “Our run so far has been positive; we’re satisfied with the results and the effort. On the other hand, we don’t consider that we’ve achieved anything special at this stage. There are many games ahead of us and tough opponents. Every week we see that there are no easy games. Our goal is to win every week.”
On the loss to APOEL and the team’s response: “I think we handled the whole situation very well. Having been with the team since its inception and seeing what happened at GSP that night, We didn’t believe that was this year’s AEL. Mr. Martins is trying to instill a certain mindset in the team; we have quality players with strong personalities who, in tough moments, carry the team on their backs.”
On players with personality: “That was the key for this year’s AEL—bringing in players with both quality and personality. We see Jovetić leading and guiding his teammates on the field. Some players, like Ouden, show what AEL has been missing in recent years.”
On Jovetić: “He’s a player who can give you exactly what you’re looking for in an experienced player with a track record of success and standout performances. I hope he’ll repay those who brought him here on the last day of the transfer window.”
On whether AEL can keep it up: “I don’t think there’s any pressure to stay in first place. We’re focusing on the next game and trying to improve. During the ninety minutes, we also see things that aren’t working properly. The important thing is to stay focused and fight for the three points.”
Team News: “The two suspended players, Kafou and João Tavares, will be out. Zoke still needs a little more time to be fully ready. Bruno Almeida is questionable after feeling some discomfort in his hip last week. If he manages to train, we’ll see how it goes. The positive thing for AEL is our depth. Whoever is called upon to play gives 100%.”
Regarding the fans: “AEL needs support right now. This is the first time under this administration that the team has performed well at this stage of the season. Fans should come to the stadium, avoid any extremes, and as I said, I hope this is the last time we’ll play a match without our fans.”
