Following the conclusion of the Federation’s meeting with the Stoiximan GBL clubs, the EOK posted a statement from its president, Vangelis Liolios, on its official website.
The HOC president referred to the proposal regarding refereeing that was presented to the league teams, namely that they themselves select the referees who will officiate their games. This proposal was also made three years ago, but at that time it did not receive the necessary approval from the clubs.

In addition, Vangelis Liolios stressed that Panathinaikos’ decision not to attend the meeting is extremely misguided, especially since, according to his own statements, it is choosing isolation and a lack of willingness to cooperate with the other 13 teams and the Hellenic Basketball Federation.
Statement by Vangelis Liolios
“Today we submitted our plan for the operation of the sensitive area of refereeing in the upcoming GBL championship. The EOK had made exactly the same proposal three years ago. Perhaps back then, the teams weren’t ready to take on those responsibilities. Let’s hope that now, having matured, they understand that they themselves must protect their investments and their league from those toxic elements who seek to undermine it.
Panathinaikos’ decision to isolate itself and demonstrate, from the very beginning, a lack of willingness to cooperate with the other teams and the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) for the common good was regrettable and extremely misguided. However, I cannot help but acknowledge and express my satisfaction with the united front presented by the other 13 teams, the sincere dialogue, and the willingness to move forward and cooperate.
We have submitted the EOK’s proposal in full detail. We await the league’s final response. And we hope that this time, the majority will show that it cares about progress and not about easy excuses. The only certainty is that basketball is moving forward unabated, and no one will stop its upward trajectory.”
