Lionel Messi added yet another remarkable achievement to his illustrious career, reaching 930 goals, with a spectacular free kick in the match between Inter Miami and San Diego. The Argentine won the free kick just outside the box and, in the 24th minute, sent the ball into the net in his signature style, tying the score at 1-1.
San Diego had taken the lead in the 12th minute through Anders Dreger, but Messi responded immediately. His shot curved around the wall, hit the crossbar, and found its way into the net past C.J. dos Santos, treating Inter Miami fans to yet another spectacular moment.

This was Messi’s 20th goal of the 2026 MLS season, with the 39-year-old remaining at the top of the scoring table. At the same time, he reached 101 goals in an Inter Miami jersey, just a few days after scoring his 100th goal for the club in the Campeones Cup final against Cruz Azul.
Messi isn’t just a goal-scorer; he has also recorded 11 assists in 22 appearances in this year’s MLS. He had found the back of the net in three consecutive games and had been involved in a goal—either scoring or assisting—in eight straight matches. Inter Miami took the lead in the 74th minute on a goal by Luis Suárez, but Dreger scored his second goal of the match to tie the game at 2-2.
The draw left Inter Miami winless for the fourth consecutive league game, with their last victory coming on August 29 against Montreal. Messi had three chances to score the winning goal in the final six minutes, but dos Santos stopped him each time. The Miami team remains third in the Eastern Conference with 46 points, while the Argentine continues his march toward the impressive milestone of 1,000 goals.
