The Cyprus Football Federation intervened immediately, both officially and behind the scenes, after learning of Barcelona’s plans for a training camp in the occupied territories, helping to have it canceled, CFF President Haris Loizidis told CNA.
Mr. Loizides emphasized, however, that this development is no cause for celebration or fanfare, stressing that the Federation will continue to closely monitor such moves and intervene whenever a violation of FIFA and UEFA regulations is identified, while also recalling the 2013 agreement between FIFA, UEFA, the Cyprus Football Association (KOP), and the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation, which paved the way for children to compete within the framework of FIFA and UEFA regulations.

As he noted, the CFF, as soon as it was informed of the camp’s plans in the occupied areas, determined that there were serious violations of the regulations of the international soccer federations.
“The CFF’s role is to oversee the rules that pertain strictly to the sporting aspect, while also taking into account the prevailing political context,” he said, noting that monitoring political issues and potential violations of EU decisions and UN resolutions falls under the responsibility of other competent authorities.
At the same time, Mr. Loizidis emphasized that the CFF wishes to remind everyone, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, that there is the 2013 agreement between FIFA, UEFA, the CFF, and the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation, signed in Zurich, and that this agreement paved the way for children to compete in accordance with FIFA and UEFA regulations.
“Those who refuse to implement this agreement are also responsible for the current situation,” concluded Mr. Loizidis.
