Apollon defeated Nea Salamina 4-2 at the “Alphamega Stadium” in the sixth matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.

The coaches of both teams, Hernán Lozada and Ángel López, spoke at the postgame press conference and commented on the match.

Their statements:

Hernán Lozada

His comments on the match: “I’m happy with the four goals we scored and with the win. We started well in the first 20 minutes and scored two goals, but we allowed our opponent to come back. We managed to take the lead at halftime thanks to Malekidis. We had plenty of chances, but we weren’t clinical. The two penalty calls were absolutely correct. We’re happy that we created many chances, but we’re not happy that our opponent created so many chances against us. Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Even on days when we don’t play that well, we score quite a few goals, but we also concede quite a few.”

On the four goals and the missed chances: “I’d be worried if we weren’t creating chances. I often talk to our forwards; I want them to be more effective. We’re pleased that four different players scored. We created chances in many different ways today.”

On the goals they conceded: “As a coach, I’d like us to concede fewer goals. Against Omonia, when we defended as a team, we didn’t concede a goal. We’ve proven in the past that we can defend better.”

On Goldson’s return: “We’re very happy for Goldson. We’re talking about a 12-hour heart surgery, and he missed just five games, plus the European ones. I congratulate him on his resilience. I told him that when he comes on, he should hold onto the ball as long as possible.”

Ángel López

On the refereeing: “Don’t ask me about the refereeing; I won’t answer any questions because I want to be on the bench for the next game and for the rest of the season. That’s why I’d rather not speak. I’ll just say that all of Cyprus is watching what’s happening with Nea Salamina in these first six games.”

On the match: “I’m pleased with my players’ performance; we played fantastically, we believed in it right up until the end, I’m completely satisfied; it’s an honor and a joy for me to coach these players. We faced some problems at the start of the match; I brought in Yousis, and you saw what a difference that made. The second half was all ours; regardless of our budget, we managed to look Apollon in the eye. We conceded two penalties—it’s the same thing every week—which is why we’ve let in so many goals.”
