Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-1 away victory over a disappointing Marseille in the match that wrapped up the fifth round of the French league.
The visitors took control of the match right from the first half, however, despite missing several chances, they failed to score, with the score remaining 0-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Luis Enrique’s team managed to turn their dominance into a goal. Specifically, in the 66th minute, the usual suspect, Ferran Torres, headed in the 0-1, and although the home team equalized eight minutes later to make it 1-1 thanks to Gomes, the Parisians responded two minutes later, with Marquinhos sealing the 1-2 victory.
It was a much-needed victory for Paris, which now has two wins and has climbed to 6th place in the standings with 8 points, while Olympiacos’ upcoming opponent in the Europa League group stage sits in second-to-last place and continues to disappoint.
It should be noted that the match against the “Red-and-Whites” is scheduled to take place in Marseille on October 15 (10:00 p.m.).
In earlier matches, Auxerre defeated Brest 2-1, staging a comeback. Boup opened the scoring for the visitors in the 23rd minute, but the home team, with two second-half goals from Archer (47') and Le Gen (83'), secured the win.
With this result, Auxerre climbed to 6th place in the standings with six points, just ahead of Brest, which has five.
In the second match of the day, Nice secured a 2-1 victory over Lille. Engu opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and Amoura doubled his team’s lead in the 67th minute. The visitors managed only to pull one back to make it 2-1 in the 79th minute through Ueda.
