Mike James believes that the evaluation system used in European basketball statistics, the so-called PIR (Performance Index Rating), is… outdated and does not accurately reflect a player’s contribution to a game.
“That’s exactly why the PIR should be abolished in European basketball,” he said, referring to the high rating Theo Maledon received in a friendly match between Real Madrid and Breogán, even though his performance wasn’t particularly good.
“Theo is a good player and can play very well. Just yesterday I was praising him, but statistically speaking, this was a terrible game for him. And I know he doesn’t feel like it was a good game either,” added Efes’s new star.
PIR is calculated as follows: (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks + fouls drawn) minus (missed shots + missed free throws + turnovers + blocks against + fouls committed).
This is exactly why PIR needs to be eliminated from European basketball. I think Theo is on fire and can play. I was just giving him props the other day, but this was a terrible game for him statistically. And I know he doesn’t feel like this was a good game either. https://t.co/V9uTIaaSVF
