Christos Marangos focused on Anorthosis’s financial situation and the club’s significant efforts toward financial restructuring while speaking at a dinner hosted by the board of directors with media representatives.
The president of “Kyriá” revealed that the board recently paid more than two million euros in old debts and will soon need to pay another million euros, as part of the effort to pay off past debts.

At the same time, he set a clear goal of financial consolidation and laying a solid foundation this season, so that next year the team can return “to where its history demands,” as he characteristically put it.
Here is what he said in detail:
“I want to thank you all for being here tonight. I greatly appreciate the important work you do. Given my broader business activities, I understand the importance of accurate and reliable information, which is an integral part of Cypriot soccer. Our relationship is one of respect and honesty, and I want that to continue.
I want to be clear: Our presence at Anorthosis goes beyond the realm of soccer. It concerns the history of our region, Famagusta, and future generations.
Anorthosis has experienced one of the most critical moments in its history. It was a matter of survival, and it was our duty to step up to this great challenge.
A few days ago, we were asked to pay a sum exceeding two million. In a few days, we will be asked to pay another million for past debts.
As you can see, we are paying off the debts of the past and building the new Anorthosis. We are moving forward with the reorganization of the departments, the modernization of the club, and the staffing of all departments without exception.
Recently, we’ve had some very important victories. Victories that aren’t reflected in the standings, but it is these victories that bring us ever closer to fulfilling our mission, which is singular and specific: We are laying a solid foundation this year, moving forward with the financial restructuring of the club, and next year we will restore the team to the place its history demands—without compromise—to where its great and wonderful fan base wants it to be.
We’ll also have the opportunity during dinner to discuss both Anorthosis and, more broadly, Cypriot soccer, which we all have a duty to preserve.
Once again, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Anorthosis organization, thank you for your presence.”
