After yesterday's 3-2 win over Ipswich, Enzo Maresca has achieved a perfect record with Manchester City, with 7 out of7 in the Premier League, setting a record that no coach had ever achieved in their first seven league games with a single team.
The English runners-up have started the season with wins over Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Manchester United, Sunderland, Liverpool, and Ipswich. In their first seven Premier League matches under the Italian coach, AEK’s upcoming opponent in the Champions League group stage (Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. at the “Etihad”) has scored 19 goals and conceded just six.
The previous record of 6/6 was shared by Pep Guardiola (City), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea), and Ole Gunnar Solskjær (Manchester United). Only Chelsea in the 2005–06 season, with nine consecutive wins, and Liverpool in the 2019–20 season, with eight, have recorded longer winning streaks to start a season than the “Citizens’” current run.
