Greece’s government spokesperson, Pavlos Marinakis, addressed the issue of Mustafa Fal’s passport—following a question on the matter.
“These are two separate issues. One concerns any criminal implications, because when someone makes a false statement, it may need to be investigated by the judicial system to determine whether criminal offenses have been committed; I do not get involved in that process. If anyone—and I am not referring solely to Mr. Fal—has committed a criminal offense, that is for the courts to decide. If they made a statement that they knew to be false at the time they made it, I cannot say so or know for certain.
Now, the administrative procedure is decided on a comprehensive basis and not on a case-by-case basis; it applies to everyone, and in any event, if anything has changed, the relevant ministry will inform you. “I will ask Mr. Livanos and the relevant Secretary General whether there are any updates regarding the procedure, and I will let you know,” emphasized Pavlos Marinakis.
