With a 79-60 victory over Norway, the National Boys’ Team concluded its campaign at the 2026 FIBA U16 EuroBasket, Division B, finishing in 19th place in the tournament and securing its place in Division B.
Our national team took control from the first quarter and did not allow Norway to pose any real threat thereafter, closing out the tournament with a second victory.
Norway got off to a better start and led 12–5, but the national team’s response was immediate. Three-pointers by Tryfonos and Sofronis Savva brought Cyprus within striking distance, and Christodoulou tied the score at 15-15. This was followed by a three-pointer from Kasiouris to give Cyprus its first lead, with Christodoulou, Michailidis, Savva Savva, and Theocharidis rounding out an outstanding final stretch of the quarter. From 12-15, the national team went on a 15-4 run and ended the quarter ahead 27-19.
Our national team maintained the same pace in the second quarter. Theocharidis continued to find the basket from the perimeter, while Kasiouris, Savvas Savva, and Christodoulou. The national team gradually extended the lead to double digits and headed into the locker room having established a comfortable cushion, with the score at 50-33.
The picture didn’t change after the break. Cyprus continued to control the game, and with Tryfonos taking on an even greater offensive role, they kept Norway at bay. Christodoulou provided solutions near the basket, Theocharidis hit another three-pointer from 6.75, and the lead even reached 20 points. The third quarter ended with a score of 64-48.
In the final quarter, the national team managed its lead without any major problems. Tryfonos continued his outstanding performance with two more three-pointers, while Michailidis and Christodoulou added points when Norway tried to close the gap. The final basket of Cyprus’s run in the tournament came from Tryfonos, who sank a shot from beyond the arc to set the final score at 79-60.
The standout player was Nifonas Tryfonos, who finished the game with 24 points and 6-for-10 from three-point range, along with 3 assists and 2 steals. Nikolas Theocharidis, shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range, and Hector Christodoulou, who added 10 rebounds and 3 assists, each scored 14 points.
Savvas Savva had 10 points and 6 assists, while Kasiouris added 8 points on 2 three-pointers. Overall, the national team made 14 of 38 three-pointers, dished out 20 assists, grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, and recorded 14 steals.
With this victory, our national team finished the tournament in 19th place, having secured its place in Division B.
