AEK Makes Many Changes in Chrysoupoli—The “Window” for Transfers Is Open

Ahead of the Cup
ALPHANEWSLIVE

AEK is leaving today for Chrysoupoli ahead of tomorrow’s Greek Cup match against Nestos (5:00 p.m.).

Marko Nikolić is expected to make several changes in an effort to refresh his team, given that two difficult matches are coming up at Allwyn Arena: against Aris on Saturday for the league and against LAS Leuven next Tuesday in the Champions League.

First of all, regulations require that two players born in 2004 or later be on the field for the entire 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Balamotis, right back Christakopoulos, center back Alexiou, and attacking midfielder Kaloskamis are the candidates, but these won’t be the only changes. We will most likely see players such as Georgiev, Vida, Ariaga, Koutesa, Zini, and perhaps even Lykoiannis start the match.

Meanwhile, with the deadline for submitting the European roster for the League Phase expiring at 12:59 a.m. on Thursday, the “window” for additions to AEK remains open. At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any activity (but, of course, “AEK” always operates under the radar) or a specific target; however, the possibility of a transfer remains real should a good opportunity arise. It should also be noted that it cannot be ruled out that any move that may take place could occur after the UEFA deadline, with the player acquired being eligible only for domestic competitions. One such case is João Mário, who could always return if a deal can be worked out with Beşiktaş, the club to which he belongs.
