Greek league derbies will continue to be officiated by foreign referees, at least until the end of the first round, as no agreement was reached on the return of Greek referees to major matches.
The Professional Football Committee met again on Thursday (August 27), but no decision was reached that would change the current arrangement.

The KED president, Stéphane Lanois, as well as the Federation, wanted to consider a pilot program to bring Greek referees back to derbies, with foreign referees handling VAR duties. However, this proposal did not garner the necessary consensus.
The majority of the “Big-4” expressed serious reservations about such a change during the season, resulting in the decision that foreign referees will remain in charge of the league’s major matches for the entire first round.
The issue is expected to be reviewed again before the end of the first round, provided that conditions are deemed suitable for a new discussion regarding the return of Greek referees.
At the same time, the Committee approved the League’s proposal to introduce goal-line cameras as soon as possible. This system will also be used in the Greek Cup starting from the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
It is worth noting that goal-line cameras are not the same as the well-known goal-line technology system. These are additional cameras installed at both goals that provide extra viewing angles for reviewing critical plays near the goal line.
