Medvedev vs. Tsitsipas: Stefanos Aims for Another Breakthrough at the Rolex Shanghai Masters

With the quarterfinals as a backdrop
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Stefanos Tsitsipas is aiming for yet another breakthrough—his biggest to date at the Shanghai Masters 1000 tournament—on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 14).

The Greek tennis player will face off—no earlier than 1:00 p.m. – against Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Stefanos is having an amazing run on the courts in China, racking up consecutive victories over Kopjans (No. 232) 2-0 in sets, Darderi (No. 21) 2-0 in sets, and, the day before yesterday, he celebrated a major comeback victory, defeating the American world No. 12, Taylor Fritz, 2-1 in sets,

The 28-year-old tennis player’s performance so far has allowed him to climb four spots in the world rankings, and he is now ranked No. 38 in the world.

As for the head-to-head record between the two players, the Russian holds the edge, with ten wins to Tsitsipas’s five. In their most recent matchup, however, Stefanos prevailed 2-0 in sets at the Doha tournament last February.

It should be noted that Medvedev went viral a few days ago for all the wrong reasons, when he was disqualified in the semifinals of the Beijing Open during his match against Djokovic, when he hit a spectator with a tennis ball.

The winner of this match will face either Tommy Paul (No. 17) or Zizhu Bergs (No. 39) in the quarterfinals.
