Here is a breakdown of the Cypriot participants:
Archery begins with the participation of all six athletes who make up the team (3 men and 3 women) in the morning qualification rounds, which will determine their starting positions in both the Individual and Team events. In the men’s competition, 36 athletes and ten teams are participating, and in the women’s competition, 28 athletes and six teams.
This will be followed by the men’s knockout rounds to determine the “32” bracket. In the afternoon, the knockout matches in the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events will take place until the semifinal pairings are determined.
In Rhythmic Gymnastics, Maria Avgousti achieved her primary goal of securing a spot in the top ten of the final. In Wednesday’s afternoon final (4:00 p.m.), she will aim to improve on her performance in the qualifying round and thus have a chance to compete for a medal.
In tennis, the only match that may take place is the mixed doubles quarterfinal, provided that Raluca Serban and Eleftherios Neos overcome, in the round of 16, the challenge posed by Sara Mitevska and Kristijan Janev from North Macedonia, a match that was scheduled to begin very late on Tuesday night. In that case, they will face the No. 1-seeded Italian pair, Vittoria Paganetti and Filippo Romano.
In table tennis, the men’s team makes its debut against a very strong opponent, the host nation Italy. While the original schedule called for a group stage, the organizers decided to hold the competition as a single-elimination tournament. Thus, Cyprus will face the host Italian team in a match that will be decided by the first team to win three matches (5:00 p.m.).
Finally, in shooting, the trap event will conclude, with Andreas Makris and Giannis Ailiotis aiming at the 50 targets on the second day, with little chance of making it into the final eight.
At the same time, the air rifle events are getting underway, with Marilena Konstantinou once again competing in the 10m Air Rifle event.
