Alexa Stais delivered an outstanding performance riding Kantu 3, taking 4th place in the show jumping final at the Mediterranean Games. This is a historic achievement, as equestrian competition was included in the Games for the first time, and the Cypriot rider made an excellent impression.
Stays and Kantu 3 returned on Tuesday for the final two decisive rounds, having completed the first two the previous day.
On the third stage, a mishap while jumping an obstacle—as her horse stepped on the line before the jump—resulted in four penalty points.
In the final and decisive round, however, the Cypriot duo was flawless, completing the round without any penalties and securing 4th place among the 32 riders who advanced to the second day of the competition.
Only three athletes managed to complete all the courses without any penalty points and advanced to a jump-off to determine the medalists. There, in addition to flawless performances, time was also a decisive factor.
The gold medal was won by Carlos Bosch Cebrian of Spain with a time of 34.60, the silver went to Hasan Sentruk of Turkey with 34.84, while the bronze went to El Ghali Boukaa of Morocco with 46.17.
Alexa Stais finished her ride with 4 penalty points, tying for 4th place with two other riders.
This performance marks a significant success for the Cypriot delegation in equestrian’s first-ever participation in the Mediterranean Games.
