The weather continues to pose serious challenges for the 2026 World Cup, and it now appears to be affecting one of the most anticipated matches of the Round of 16. The Mexico–England match, which was scheduled to take place early Monday morning at 3:00 a.m. Cyprus time (6:00 p.m. local time), is likely to be rescheduled due to the extreme weather conditions expected in Mexico City.
Weather forecasts predict severe thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall around kickoff time, which has raised concerns at FIFA. International media outlets are already reporting that FIFA is seriously considering rescheduling the match to a safer time slot.
Reports from local media in Mexico indicate that the new kickoff time will be 9:00 p.m. Cyprus time, which is 12:00 p.m. in the host country. This move will help avoid extreme weather conditions and allow the match to proceed without the risk of interruptions or delays, as has already happened in other matches of the tournament.
