Roberto Carlos revealed one of the darkest chapters of his life while speaking at a conference in Portugal. The legendary Brazilian defender, who during his career signed contracts worth tens of millions of euros and earned significant income from advertising and endorsements, described the moment he saw everything he had built come crashing down overnight.
As he said, one morning he woke up to find a “pile of papers” he didn’t even know existed. “I had a serious problem with my former agent, but also a very serious family issue. One Thursday I went to bed at midnight, and when I woke up on Friday, I found documents I’d never seen before,” he said.
The situation was so dire that—as he admitted—he lost almost his entire fortune: “One day I lost 99% of everything I had earned. That’s when I lost all control over my trading history.” Nevertheless, because he was still competing professionally at the time, he managed to limit his losses and restructure his financial and family life.
Carlos also explained that he shares these experiences with younger people so they won’t repeat the same mistakes: “I tell the younger generation about all the bad things that happened in my life so they don’t make the same mistakes I did.”
A confession that shows how even the biggest soccer stars can face losses they never imagined.
