Shortly after renewing his contract with Milan, the veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, in an interview with Marca, made no secret of his desire to return to the team where he made his name, Real Madrid.
Specifically, he stated that “the Queen” is his home and that he would like to return there to help the team in a role other than as a player.
At the same time, he also mentioned Milan, where he will continue to play next season, saying he is happy in Milan, though he was careful to point out that the pressure to succeed and deliver results at the club is intense.
Here’s what he said in detail:
“Real Madrid is my home, and I’d love to return. I’m a Madridista now and forever. It’s the greatest club in the world. I want to return and be useful, to help out. I don’t want to work at Real Madrid; I want to work for Real Madrid, as Mourinho said.
I don’t want to return to Madrid just to be there, but to work and be useful. Madrid is my city. Real Madrid has given me everything and offered me so much.
My intention is to return to the Spanish capital and stay there.”
“I can say that I feel good and happy here in Milan, where I was welcomed with open arms from day one. The proof is that I’m still here for a second consecutive year.
Milan is one of the best clubs in the world, a historic club that may not have achieved the results everyone had come to expect in recent years, but it remains a great team, one of the most beloved in the world.
The pressure is also incredibly high. When you get here, you feel it. You can breathe in Milan’s history, even at the training center. So many legends, so many great players have played here, and that was definitely one of the reasons I chose this club last year.
Growing up watching Italian soccer, Milan was my favorite team. When this opportunity came along after Real Madrid, I had no doubts about where I would go.”
