Nea Salamina’s press officer, Loizos Moisos, spoke to “SPOR FM 95.0” about everything related to the “Red-and-Whites.”
First, he discussed the team’s victory and advancement against APEA Akrotiri.
He spoke about Evangelou, the match against Paphos, as well as the play against Apollon and the offside call by VAR.
Here’s what he said in detail
On the qualification and the result: “We achieved what we set out to do, which was to win and qualify. We didn’t underestimate our opponent at any point. Besides, our coach said it after the game—that we took the match seriously, and that was evident from the players who took the field. Our priority was first and foremost the win and qualification, and then a strong performance, which I believe we delivered. Now we’re looking ahead to Monday’s game.”
On Evangelou: “What matters regarding Evangelou is that he’s a player of recognized value, and that’s why he was brought in. We count on him and expect a lot from him. He proved that yesterday in the best possible way. As soon as he came on as a substitute, he brought energy and ran hard, and then he scored his goal.”
On the match against Paphos: “It’s an extremely difficult game. I’ll also echo our coach’s comments, who considers Paphos a Champions League-caliber team—one that may not be competing there this year but has the talent. Beyond that, the second point he made—and what the team wants and needs—is a packed Famagusta stadium – so that the fans can spur the team on to achieve its goal, which is none other than victory and the three points.”
Looking ahead: “There’s optimism. We’re seeing the team improve and gel more with each game, and that inspires optimism. We know the team’s quality and potential, and as time goes on, we’ll keep getting better.”
On the meeting with the Chief Referee: “It was a productive meeting. Discussions took place, and what matters is that, in any case, the outcome is the same. We believe we were wronged, and the standings do not reflect what our team accomplished on the field. And to preempt any questions regarding what we stated in our press release, those points still stand. If there is a further meeting that satisfies us, then the team’s Board of Directors will convene and reconsider the matter.”
Regarding the play against Apollon and the offside call by VAR: “The focus of the discussion has shifted. None of us disputed the optical illusion that occurs. However, we didn’t have a complaint about just one play. I don’t understand why some people are fixated solely on that one. We’ve made it clear that this isn’t the only play we have complaints about, and we’ve pointed them out. We are concerned with equality and the uniform application of the regulations.”
Regarding the tickets for Paphos: “They will receive 450 tickets. It goes without saying that all safety measures are being followed and will continue to be followed.”
