Loizos Moisos, a spokesperson for Nea Salamina, made statements to “SUPERSPORT 104.”
He began by discussing the 3-3 draw with Olympiacos, as well as the “Red-and-Whites’” strong complaints about the refereeing, announcing that the team would file a formal complaint
“Yesterday we played our season opener against Olympiacos, marking our grand return to where we historically and traditionally belong. Obviously, as in every game, regardless of the opponent, we were going for the win; that was precisely our goal in yesterday’s game. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the win and the three points we wanted, and it’s also a fact—and absolutely true—that there’s intense dissatisfaction with the refereeing of the match, especially regarding specific plays and that penalty kick—even more so regarding that particular play—and all the evidence and video footage will be further examined, and the team will file a complaint,” he said, adding:
“There is, I repeat, intense dissatisfaction. We didn’t want to have any complaints or be forced to file a complaint from the very first matchday, but as you can understand, we’re forced to proceed this way and take this action, because unfortunately yesterday’s refereeing wasn’t what it should have been—and I’ll say it again, especially regarding the penalty kick, when we were leading 1-3 and had control of the match—which is exactly what the coach mentioned in his post-match comments. Then came that penalty call—which we believe was by no means a penalty—and it essentially put Olympiacos back in the game, and in the end, unfortunately, we conceded the equalizer and were forced to settle for one point.”
He then added, when asked if he believed the result was influenced by the refereeing: “I don’t need to dwell on other plays; anyone who watched the game will realize this on their own. I won’t make any very specific statements; I just wanted to mention this because I focused particularly on the penalty kick—which was the most pivotal moment, if you will, but it’s also evident from the overall disciplinary oversight, the cards that should have been issued but weren’t, and the way the game was managed both on and off the field, in the sense that in certain plays a foul should have been called but wasn’t, while in our favor, it was called on two plays where we were creating opportunities on the counterattack—he didn’t let us maintain the advantage. There are many plays in the game that can be reviewed both within and outside the opening minutes.”
“Nea Salamina has not returned to the First Division to passively accept all the injustices committed against it, and the management is here to protect the club from anyone who seeks to harm the team both on and off the field,” was one of his concluding remarks.
