Two very different matches in Matchday 4, but with one thing in common: victories for Spain and England, who continue their battle for the top spot in Group 3 of League A.
In Split, Spain had to wait until the final minutes to complete their comeback against Croatia. The home team got off to a better start and took the lead in the 17th minute when Ivan Perišić found the back of the net.
La “Furia Roja” gradually increased the pressure and tied the game in the 61st minute, with Mikel Merino paving the way for the comeback. Perisic’s ejection in the 79th minute on a second yellow card gave the Spaniards an even greater advantage, with the winning goal finally coming in the 87th minute.
The usual suspect in the final minutes, Merino, found the back of the net once again with a beautiful finish into the far corner past Livaković, capping off his personal masterclass giving Spain the victory over an improved Croatia to clinch first place in the group.
Meanwhile, England left no room for doubt against the Czech Republic at Wembley. The “Three Lions” prevailed 3-0, with the score set in the 57th minute, as Harry Kane scored two goals.
With this result, Thomas Tuchel’s team earned three crucial points and remained firmly in the race for the top, sitting three points behind group leader Spain, which has a perfect record (4/4).
