Tensions between Real Madrid and Javier Tebas have flared up again following the Madrid club’s official statement calling for the resignation of the LaLiga president.
Real Madrid accused Tebas of using his position to attack and disparage the club, emphasizing that the Spanish league needs a leader who will act with absolute impartiality toward all teams.
Tembas’s response was not long in coming, as he sent a clear message to Florentino Pérez as well. As he emphasized, neither the president of LaLiga nor the president of Real Madrid owns the competition. At the same time, he clarified that representing all clubs does not mean the league’s administration must adopt the positions of the most powerful team.
Once again, refereeing is at the center of the new controversy. Tebas acknowledged that every team has the right to protest specific mistakes, but he rejected the notion that every decision against Real Madrid is presented as evidence of an organized attack against the club. For its part, Real Madrid insists that it is calling for institutional neutrality and greater credibility in the operation of Spanish soccer.
The president of LaLiga concluded his remarks in particularly strong terms, noting that he will not run the league as if it belonged to a specific club. “I respect everyone, but I answer to no one,” was his message, in yet another public clash with Real Madrid’s management that once again brings the relationship between the major clubs and LaLiga into the spotlight.
