The full announcement reads: “It is with deep sorrow that the Board of Directors and the entire Nea Salamina Famagusta organization bid farewell to Andreas Tzionis ‘Konteati,’ a great soccer player, coach, and man who made his name synonymous with Nea Salamina Famagusta.
Known to everyone by the nickname “Zavrotemono,” due to his exceptional and powerful left foot, he proudly wore the red-and-white jersey of Nea Salamina from 1962 to 1972, recording 204 official appearances and 47 goals. Thanks to his skill on the field, his passion, and his dedication, he is considered one of the most iconic figures in the club’s history. He subsequently continued to offer his invaluable services as a coach, always remaining faithful to the team’s values and ideals.
His dedication, character, and contributions will remain indelibly etched in the memory of all who had the honor of knowing him and working with him.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7, at 4:00 p.m., at the Church of Saint Thekla, Agioi Anargyroi B’. In lieu of wreaths, donations will be accepted on behalf of the Red Cross.
