The Portuguese national team has officially entered a new era following its failure to perform well in the ongoing World Cup in North America.
On Friday afternoon (July 10), the country’s soccer federation announced the hiring of Jorge Jesus, who will replace Roberto Martínez, who was relieved of his duties following the loss to Spain and the team’s elimination in the Round of 16 of this year’s World Cup.
After three consecutive years in the Saudi Arabian league with Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, the 71-year-old coach will continue his coaching career on his home country’s national team, leading the Iberians in the upcoming Nations League, at Euro 2028, and at the next World Cup, which will be held in the summer of 2030.
A new journey begins today. Welcome to the National Team, Coach Jorge Jesus.
