After a first half with few scoring chances at either end, Rodrigo Riquelme capitalized on a beautiful pass from Hernández and finished the play perfectly with a superb shot on the move, leaving Remiro with no chance to react.

For the remainder of the match, Real Sociedad pressed hard, missing a huge chance to equalize in the 83rd minute through Oscarsson, but the score remained 1-0, with Betis getting off to a winning start in the new league season.
