At the same time, he shared his own views on the soccer team and the new efforts being made.
Here are his comments in detail
On yesterday’s event: “There was no way we veterans could not be there. We put in a lot of effort, and it brings back so many memories.”
On the loss of life: “Unfortunately, these things happen, and it’s sad that they’ve gone up to heaven, but they were watching us from above and were happy.”
On the anniversary logo: “I congratulate those who came up with it because our anniversary logo perfectly captures who we are.”
On APOEL’s retrospective: “Truly, from 1926 onward—in a short span of time yesterday—we saw it all; congratulations from the bottom of our hearts for the hard work they put into this project, because they left no stone unturned in bringing to light of the glorious APOEL club.”
On just how emotionally charged the evening was: “Seeing your brother, with whom you played soccer, carry the most historic banner inside—just as Ioannou did—no one could help but be moved. To one, I was a brother; to the other, more than just a teammate. Everyone who contributed to APOEL’s entire history played a part in the greatness of our APOEL.”
On the difficult period the team is going through: “Everything will fall into place, and we’re moved by the fact that every day the fans are rallying behind us, and a huge change is about to take place. APOEL is used to rising to the challenge in tough times. This season’s performance will be the starting point and the foundation for getting back on track as soon as possible. We want to earn our third star this season.”
On whether he’s satisfied with the team’s performance so far: “I’ll give a general overview regarding Papadopoulos, whom I didn’t know before, and Vryzas. The way they operate and strive to strengthen the team demonstrates the professionalism and seriousness these individuals project, having fully grasped the situation they’ve come into. But with seriousness, discipline, and focus, no one can imagine that this effort won’t end in success.”
